Halfway Through

In Dr. Myer's latest post, he referred to and expanded on someone's discussion of how food is the great equalizer. This activity cannot possibly give us even the smallest taste of what it feels like to go an entire lifetime without food or living on a subsistence diet, but it does provide the tiniest glimpse for a single day. This activity is a great reminder of how blessed we are as a nation to have access to food each and every day and have so much of it. While I am "surviving" my 24 hours without food, I try to continually remind myself that there are millions of people in the world who live like this constantly. Although I feel very hungry, I will keep pushing myself for the next 11+ hours and finish my fast, thankful that I have a meal to look forward to at the end of it all, unlike many.

  1. I agree Kevin, that this fasting for a day project is remote from folks day to day and lifetime food insecurity, but does it DOES give us a small taste of their situations. The fact that you are writing about that situation is something you probably would not have otherwise done.
