When looking into the three options for this assignment I decided to choose to partake in a 24 hour fast. While I definitely enjoy eating.. A LOT... in my mind it would be easier to not eat for an entire day than to either: eat on $2 or less for three days or to follow the subsistence diet of a poor person for two days. When I decided which option I was to engage myself in, I had to look into my schedule to ensure I didn't have much to do during the time period I fasted myself. I plan to start this activity in approximately 20 minutes (4 pm 11/13/2013). I expect the first 3-6 hours to go by pretty regularly with some occasional feelings of hunger. Following the first 6 hours or so, I can only imagine how painful the hours leading up to sleep will be. Tomorrow morning I'm sure I will wake up and not only be extremely hungry, but also I believe I will undoubtedly feel a little less energetic or weak than I usually do due to the lack of food in my system. Throughout this 24 hour fast, I intend to engage in as little physical activity as possible to try and make the nutrients from my previous meals last as long as possible. With all that said...here we go, no food for 24 hours...
Kendall Davis
I am the same way as Kendall when it comes to eating, it is basically my hobby. That is why I decided to go a different route and participate in the $2 a day Food Challenge. I applaud him for trying the 24 Hour Fast, something that I would have a hard time with. I think it is smart to try not to engage in much physical activity to preserve those last little bit of nutrients from the previous meal like he said. A whole 24 hours without food, your going to want to make the last thing you ate go as far as possible. I think Kendall has a good plan going forward and I'll be anxious to hear how it went for someone who likes to eat as much as I do. I think this will give him a good perspective as well just like my challenge did for me, because there are people in impoverished countries that go days without eating and we need to be mindful of that.
